LCCM to host fundraising ‘Songs for Ukraine’ open mic event

Students at London’s higher education music college LCCM, moved by the heart-breaking scenes in Ukraine, have joined together to organise a fundraising live music/open mic event on Wednesday 9th March, at The Music Box, 241 Union Street, SE1 0LR.

With the aim of supporting those currently in Ukraine and refugees who have fled, attendees will be able to scan the QR code on posters throughout LCCM’s Music Box campus and venue and donate to a variety of causes. Takings at the bar will also be donated towards the cause.

“Music is something that connects people all around the world. No matter where you are, it goes against the laws of war, giving us hope and courage to overcome hardship in our lives, but what is most important is that it makes us have compassion towards one another,” says LCCM student and Slovakian national, Daniela Bakisova, who is organising the event.

“I've organised this event to support the refugees, the citizens and the protectors of Ukraine both mentally and financially. With the amazing help of teachers, and students at LCCM we will spread the word of kindness, and love. Please come to join us for a much-needed cause. Every 'penny' matters.”

LCCM Creative Industries Liaison, JD Donovan, says: “I am so proud of Daniela and our students for being so proactive and thoughtful. Everything else pales in comparison. We might only be one small college, but we will do what we can to help the situation in Ukraine.”

The ‘open mic’ line-up will see LCCM students perform, but anyone is welcome to come down, sing, play or just share a drink at the Music Box venue where you can enjoy great live music for an important cause.
