GUS Canada leadership attends China’s 74th anniversary event in Vancouver
On Tuesday 26 September, Cyndi McLeod, CEO of GUS Canada and Dr Annie Lu, Vice President – China, International Business Development for GUS, attended a dinner reception celebrating the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Hosted by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, the event saw over 450 attendees, including Consul General Yang Shu and Dr Huang Chen Xiaoping of the Royal Society of Canada.
Consul General Yang emphasised the growth potential in China-Canada economic relations and streamlined visa procedures for enhanced people-to-people exchanges. A notable moment of the evening was Cyndi McLeod’s interview with China Central Television (CCTV), where she remarked: “It’s been a pleasure to be here to celebrate China’s 74th anniversary. China has done an incredible amount of development in the environmental area and in sustainability. I think sometimes the rest of the world doesn’t understand how progressive China actually is in these areas.”
CCTV is a distinguished representative of the Canadian education sector and a long-standing friend of China. Both Cyndi McLeod and Dr Annie Lu expressed their gratitude for the event and saw it as an opportunity to deepen cultural exchanges and diplomatic ties between China and Canada.
