LCCA BA Fashion hosts Fashion Innovation Week

In late November, London College of Contemporary Art’s BA Fashion students hosted Fashion Innovation Week, an event allowing students the opportunity to engage with 10 different areas of the fashion industry, with each session led by an industry practitioner.
Sessions ranged from talks on activism in the arts with Alamelu Annamalai, Naushin Kaippally, Thomas Harvey, Kumbirai Makumbe, Matija Cop and Hanya Elghamry, Tutors at LCCA, to green skills and opportunities in sustainable fashion with Jakub Gontarek and securing fashion internships with Jordan Wake, and innovative materials with Jess Redgrave and Edward TJ Mitchel.
Elsewhere, there were practical workshops on zero waste and subtraction pattern cutting with Suzi Potts, natural dyeing with Faye Fraser, jewellery leather with Keko Hainswheeler, and leaf printing/cyanotype with Jacek Obloj. In addition, LCCA students also explored a range of mediums in an illustration workshop with Mathilde Humbert.
Marta Rękawek, Graduate Teaching Assistant at LCCA who planned the event, said: “It was a wide ranging, innovative and interesting event, providing students tools and opportunities to widen their creative horizons,”
Across the week, students commented on the usefulness of the sessions, particularly the fashion photography workshop which will help them across their degrees as they shoot their own content for photoshoots, lookbooks and more.
LCCA is grateful to guests for taking the time to come in and provide students with exclusive experiences and experiential learning opportunities.
