University Canada West holds largest ever convocation with 4,400 students

University Canada West held its largest ever convocation this week, with 4,400 students from 80 countries graduating over eight ceremonies in front of family, friends, faculty, staff and dignitaries at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver.
MBA graduate, Cris de los Santos, was the Valedictorian. Honorary doctorates were awarded to William McCarthy, in recognition of his longstanding philanthropic endeavours, and George C Reifel, for his dedication to conserving North America’s natural environments.
Dr Hamed Taherdoost received the Sustained Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award, Victor Ba Nyar Naing was presented with the Sessional Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award, and Dr Mohsen Saeedi was the first-ever recipient of the Sustained Research Excellence Award.
Dr Bashir Makhoul, UCW President and Vice-Chancellor, said: “You should be proud of what you have accomplished, and proud of what you are part of. From the day you applied to study with us, everything we have done together has been leading up to this moment.”
