GUS Receives Recognition for Humanitarian Initiatives in Ukraine
This week, as we approach the solemn occasion of the 2nd anniversary of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine on 24 February, Global University Systems was recognised for its impactful humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. In response to the ongoing conflict, GUS took proactive measures by establishing a dedicated JustGiving page. The funds raised have played a pivotal role in expediting the acquisition of critical medical aid, food supplies, essential provisions, and clothing. Importantly, the outreach of GUS’s humanitarian efforts extends beyond Ukraine, also reaching neighbouring countries grappling with the repercussions of the conflict.
In a collaborative effort with UNESCO Lifelong Learning, GUS’s online learning platform, FutureLearn, has taken a significant step to support Ukrainians during these challenging times. By extending free enrolment opportunities, FutureLearn provides access to specialised courses crafted by some of the world’s top universities. GUS’s commitment to this initiative is evident in its substantial contribution of £30,000, reflecting the organisation’s dedication to fostering educational opportunities even amidst crisis.
Beyond financial contributions, GUS has strategically directed its humanitarian efforts towards key cities, ensuring a targeted and impactful intervention. This multifaceted approach includes the provision of ambulances, practical foldable beds, power banks for essential communication, baby food to address the needs of vulnerable populations, and defibrillators for immediate medical assistance. These efforts are a testament to GUS’s commitment to not only provide financial aid but also to address the pressing needs of communities on the ground.
GUS’s recognition for its humanitarian endeavours underscores the organisation’s belief in the power of collective action and the transformative potential of education, even in the face of adversity.
